Noises in the fog

Postby Carina Rei » Wed Nov 25, 2015 1:25 am

We were walking in the middle of a cloud, chatting pleasantly and feeling small, moisty drops on our faces. It was half past nine and there was about six degrees, we only could see what was directly in front of us, a damp fog enveloped us, when we suddenly heard a sound of footsteps on dry leaves very close to us. We walked very slow on that old road, caring and trusting the rest of our senses, that without good vision had been sharpened. It was the beginning of winter and we knew that on both sides of the path were dry leaves, pine cones and fallen branches by strong wind in recent weeks.

As we continued on our way again we heard movement in the leaves, it was not the wind, .. what could it be ..?, We stopped, silence had become so that we continued walking, we no longer talked, we were aware of what was happening on the right side of the way, who was there? .. again movement in the leaves, we tried to approach the noise, but within the field of view of about one meter around us all was still. Would it be another person, an animal ? On the island there are no dangerous wild animals, so we were tranquil and someone else ..? .. There in the mist, we were three and did not carry anything of value, our backpack with tissues, a sandwich and a bottle of water and the keys of the car, which was parked down the road at the beginning of the path.

We walked in silence with our ear attentive to any new noise that could come from the fog on our right, the minutes passed and as we did hear nothing but our own steps, we relaxed and went back to our conversation whose subject was the noise, trying to guess what it had been. Suddenly again, movements in the dry leaves and branches, they were stronger this time but from the left. The trees on both sides of the road were mostly leafless chestnuts trees but full of beards, what gave the environtment a bewitched look, we were expecting at any time to run into an elf or troll as it is called in Scandinavia. Now we talked of the mysterious noises, that followed us, and we looked in and over the trees, waiting to see the troll.

After an hour the sun appeared shyly and removed the cloud, and we could see better and suddenly several meters ahead of us a rather plump partridge appeared walking in all its splendor with its feathers on their upper parts mainly brown, with some reddish in the mantle. It was walking ahead of us proud of showing us the way, suddenly it stood on a stone and began to call with its characteristic noise, circling as a model for us to photograph it from all sides. Would it be saying us anything?

FEAR is sometimes read False Evidence Appearing Real.

Not knowing what the source of the unknown sound really was, you nonetheless trusted the company you were with, as well as your confidence to deal with the situation.

Quite often, we play the tapes in our imagination, despite having no reason to associate reality to our thoughts. Strength of purpose , and focusing on the task at hand, are keys to controlling our thinking.

Kudos to the group for surviving the march of the grouse.
